Program Summary
The Rapid Relief Respite Program, also called the “Triple R” Program, is a respite care program providing a few hours a month of professional and targeted care to children on the autism spectrum and their siblings. D.A.T.S.M.O.M. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Tametria Conner Dantzler created this program to allow parents to run errands and engage in self care activities while knowing their children are in good hands. D.A.T.S.M.O.M. understands the need for relief. With or without family members assisting, it takes special people who can can relate to and cater to the needs of different ability children while creating a welcoming and thriving environment for them.
Families: Registration
Eastdale Baptist Church, located at 400 North Burbank Drive in Montgomery, AL was the first community partner serving as a host site for the Rapid Respite Relief Program starting in April 2022. Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, located at 2911 Woodley Road, Montgomery, AL 36111 is the second community partner to serve as a host site beginning January 2023. Holy Comforter is sponsoring a fine arts program that will be instituted during the respite care event. Due to the fine arts component, there will be a registration cap instituted of 12 total children (including relatives of children on the spectrum as well). If your registered child is a no-show, meaning you have not called 334-659-6013 or e-mailed datsmom@datsmom.org prior to the day of the event or the day of the event to inform staff your child will not attend the respite care event, you will not be able to register your child again for the next respite care event. Thank you for understanding there is a dire need for this service and we have to be respectful of all families and our generous volunteers. Community Partners: Host Site
The program outcome is for families of children on the autism spectrum in the Tri-County area to have a stable community support system for respite relief. The goal is to recruit 3-4 community partners to host the Rapid Relief Program once a month on the weekend for 3-4 hours. The respite care would take place at the community partner’s premises with D.A.T.S.M.O.M. project staff and volunteers.
Community Partners: Free Autism Training
D.A.T.S.M.O.M. will offer free autism caregiver training to the community partner’s staff and/or volunteers. It is D.A.T.S.M.O.M.’s hope the training will equip them with the necessary knowledge to support individuals on the spectrum. The training will also encourage the community partner’s staff/volunteers to institute autism-friendly measures and inclusion accommodations while rendering services. We want your staff to be able to interact and engage with our families during the respite program and when they return to your venue for services.
